So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’

when you DON’T DO what I say?

Luke 6:46 NLT

As God’s Word continually intersects with my life there is a noticeable theme. I can’t miss it because I see it. I see it because I asked for it. And I asked for it because I desire to know Him more through His Word. God is answering my prayer to know Him better through knowing His Word better.

Just a few weeks ago, a large group of us completed a four-week online Bible teaching in Colossians 3. We studied how to reflect The Reason for the Season better. First, we must have a desire to delight in the truth of His Word so we recognize when His Word is refining us.  Then, we must accept the correction of the Word so we keep reflecting Him better to a lost and dying world.

With the truths of Colossians 3 fresh on our heart and mind, a new message series started at my church. The first week, our pastor taught from James 3, the restless evil of the tongue. He challenged us to pay attention to the destruction of our tongue because our words bring life and death.

The words of our mouth and the meditations of our heart definitely reflect our Savior, Jesus Christ, God’s Son.

God did not stop with this obvious connection between Colossians 3 and James 3. He went Deeper Still. Recently, my husband and I served at a local church for the poor and homeless. Before feeding the poor and homeless, the pastor preached food for their souls.  And just like that, God connected His truths yet one more time:

So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say?

Luke 6:46 NLT

As we sat there among the poor and homeless, God challenged us to stop giving excuses, stop repeating empty promises and stop saying I’m sorry when we don’t do what He says. God calls for us to turn around our behavior and do what He says. Because we love Him. Because we want to please Him. Because we need to reflect the Reason for the Season better than we do.

If you love me, show it by doing what I’ve told you.

John 14:15 The Message

God is at work within us. We need only open our eyes, and our Bibles, to see His goodness. Reflecting His image better is dependent upon opening the eyes of our heart to experience His movement through His Word.

We reflect The Reason for the Season better when we are in His Word.

Our goal for every season must be to reflect the Reason for the Season better, not just during Christmas.   Almighty God came to earth as a child to grow into a man to be our Savior. Our Messiah. Our Redeemer. He is King of kings and Lord of lords. He is the Babe in the manger.

Living to reflect Him better is Living Deeper Still.

So the Word became human and made his home among us.

He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness.

And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.

John 1:14 NLT
