Glory to God in highest heaven,
and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.
We know the Christmas story well. We’ve heard it told through drama, song, and dramatic reading. We take turns reading the Christmas story before presents can be unwrapped. And in Sunday school, we have placed each piece of the manger scene on the flannel graph board while reciting the story.
Every year the story is told and every year we listen with little thought beyond the familiar.
But this year, what if we read the Christmas story for the next seven days, leading up to December 25, and what if we read it for details we’ve never seen before? What if we ask God for a fresh encounter with HIStory this year?
Read HIStory to see His presence through His angels bringing forth good news to Joseph, Mary, and the shepherds. Read HIStory to see His power through the star He hung in the night sky to guide the Wise Men to the Son of God. Read HIStory to see His peace that was sent through a Babe in the manger.
Don’t stop with just one reading this season. Read every day, for the next seven days, to see His presence in the virgin birth. Read every day, for the next seven days, to see His peace as Joseph takes Mary for his wife. And read every day, for the next seven days, to see His power through a dream that saved the wise men’s lives.
The Christmas story is not a story of long ago, but a story of today.
His presence can be known through the same Spirit who came over Mary. God sent His Son into this world to save the world through Him. That saving power wasn’t just for the wise men of long ago but is for each of us today. God sent His very Son so that there would be peace on earth.
Read HIStory every day, for the next seven days, in search of a fresh encounter with a familiar story. The Babe in a manger came to be Lord in our lives.
Seeking a fresh encounter with the familiar is Living Deeper Still.
